INTRODUCTION

The Citi® Double Cash® Card is a simple and sturdy no-fee card. It has a high cashback rate of 2% on all purchases, with no limits or categories – about the best on offer for a no-fee card.

Steady cashback is the focus here. The low sign-up bonus and 0% APR that applies only to balance transfers is a lower offering than many other cards – but for many, the higher cashback makes up for this.

Cashback is awarded as ThankYou® Points ($200 is awarded as 20,000 points). This can be exchanged for cashback via a statement credit or transferred to a bank account.

There are also limited options to transfer points to other travel schemes. With the Double Cash alone, point transfers are limited. However, if paired with a Citi Premier® card, you can unlock the full list of Citi transfer partners for greater travel value.

MAIN CARD BENEFITS:

No annual fee.

A long 18-month 0% APR on balance transfers (not purchases).

2% cashback on all purchases – awarded as 1% at time of purchase and 1% at time of payment.

There is an additional 3% bonus (so 5% cashback in total) for hotels, car rentals, and attractions booked with Citi Travel.

WHO IS THE CARD FOR:

With no earnings limits and high cash back rates, this is a good choice for any high spender wanting maximum cashback for a no-fee card.

It will also pair well with other cards that offer bonus category earning. You can then maximize earnings by using this card for general additional spending. In particular, combining with other Citi cards also expands the options for transferring points to hotel and airline programs and maximizing value through travel rewards.

PROS:

Simple 2% cashback on all purchases.

No limits on total cashback earnings.

Easy to use and manage, with no categories to understand or registrations required.

Can be combined with other Citi cards to expand transfer options.

CONS:

The 0% APR offer is only for balance transfers, not for purchases.

Limited ability to transfer to any travel rewards program for redeeming.

There is a foreign exchange fee of 3% so this is not a good choice for overseas use.

Low sign-up bonus of just $200 – other cards have better offers.

No bonus categories for higher cashback earnings.
